Cardiff Uni Sailing Club
*** NEW - Please visit our new forum to be chat about club related issues***
Cardiff University Sailing Club is one of the biggest clubs in the athletic union. Our efforts to make sure that all our members get involved have been rewarded by winning the most improved club four times in the last seven years. Despite the size of the club we offer something for everyone, even if you've never sailed before, as is often the case with new members.
The club is also a recognised RYA Training Centre allowing us to teach and award the internationally recognised RYA Sailing and Powerboating Schemes. For the more experienced sailor the club's boats are freely available for use . We own six Fireflies, two Laser 2s, three Topper Magnos and two Buzz's and are looking to expand this fleet further in the near future.
Cardiff Uni competes on the national university circuit and our two teams often spend their weekends away team racing, and every Wednesday training for this. Most people however, fit in somewhere between these two categories - they don't need instruction but neither are they rock stars. Practice makes perfect and hopefully you'll enjoy coming down and doing some informal sailing, racing and drinking.
The problem comes when it gets dark - you can't see where you're sailing! So instead we'll go and find a bar; drinking and sailing have been inseparable for 500 years and we're not going to let that tradition die! We have regular pub crawls, and the annual 'Welsh Dragon' event party is a highlight of the year.
Finally there is the diehard committee who work tirelessly throughout the year to make the club work. But remember, we're your committee so if there's something you're not liking let us know and we'll see if we can do something about it.
