Here at Cardiff we focus most of our race training on team racing, although we do compete at the British Uni Sailing Assoc' (BUSA) fleet racing nationals in Weymouth every November.

Team racing is an exciting, tactical form of sailing, where two teams of three boats sail against each other. Usually sailed in Fireflies or Laser 2s the aim is to score less than ten points overall. Boats are awarded points respective to their finishing positions, one point for first place, two for second and so forth. Team Racing takes place on small racecourses, therefore making a good start and good boat handling are vital skills combined with a knowledge of the rules. Unlike most sailing the aim is not to be the fastest boat round the course but the fastest team.

Our two university teams travel around the country most weekends of the year enjoying some great sailing and some great socials, and sometimes they're even successful!
